Sheena Toring embraces big expectations with Creamline

Sheena Toring took a few moments to gather herself before facing the media — understandably overwhelmed after being selected by the most decorated team in Premier Volleyball League history, Creamline.

The former National University standout was chosen as the 12th overall pick by the Cool Smashers in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft held on Sunday at Novotel Manila Araneta City. She now reunites with her college coach, Sherwin Meneses, at the professional level.

The moment her name was called, Toring knew the weight of the opportunity — and the expectations that come with it. After all, she’s joining a team that boasts 10 PVL titles.

But this isn’t unfamiliar territory for her.

A product of the National University Nazareth School program, Toring has already collected five titles at the high school level and later helped steer the NU Lady Bulldogs to three more championships in the collegiate division.

“I think again, big expectation talaga na ‘pag champion team Creamline. So ako, kung ano ‘yung i-improve ko pa, I hope kung ano ‘yung kulang sa Creamline, ita-try kong i-fill up po. ‘Yun po,” Toring said.

Fortunately for the 6-foot middle blocker, the transition may be smoother than most rookies. She will once again be under the guidance of Coach Sherwin, who has long bridged the gap between NU and Creamline.

Since Meneses took over NU’s program ahead of UAAP Season 87, the Lady Bulldogs and the Cool Smashers have frequently held joint training sessions and scrimmages — giving Toring a head start in familiarizing herself with her new teammates and system.

“I’m really happy na nasa Creamline ako kasi knowing Coach Sherwin nga, alam ko ‘yung sistema niya. So big advantage ‘yon para sa akin,” she added.

“Wala na ‘ko masyadong changes po. So excited din po ako makipag-training sa mga professional players — sina ate Alyssa (Valdez), sila ate Michele (Gumabao).”
