Gilas Women earn FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup slot

Gilas Pilipinas Women made history on Tuesday morning (Manila time), officially booking a spot in the FIBA 3×3 Under-23 World Cup 2025.

The Filipinas topped Stop 5 of the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League 2025 – Asia-Pacific 1, held in Doha, Qatar, raising their total to 460 points — a mark that can no longer be surpassed by closest rivals Chinese Taipei and New Zealand.

With just one stop remaining later tonight, the minimum total Gilas Women can finish with is 505 points, while Chinese Taipei and New Zealand can only reach a maximum of 500 and 480 points, respectively.

The 2025 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup is set to take place from September 17 to 21 in Xiong An, China.

It was another dominant outing for the Philippine squad.

The quartet of Tin Cayabyab, Kacey Dela Rosa, Cheska Apag, and Cielo Pagdulagan cruised past Singapore, 21-11 (7:21), and Qatar, 21-10 (7:39), to book a spot in the final.

In the championship game, Dela Rosa exploded for 11 points, powering the Philippines to a 21-14 (7:04) victory over Chinese Taipei.

Meanwhile, the Gilas Men’s squad has been eliminated from World Cup contention after finishing third once again in Stop 5.

The team composed of Nic Cabanero, Zedjay Etulle, Anton Eusebio, and Aldous Torculas fell to Qatar, 22-18, before salvaging a win over Indonesia, 21-15.

For the sixth and final stop, Gilas Women is grouped with New Zealand and Indonesia, while the men’s team will face New Zealand and Singapore.
