It looks like Rodrigue Ebondo is doing just fine with the Congo men’s national basketball team.
Months after finishing his college basketball career at the Centro Escolar University, where he rose as one of the best foreign student-athletes in the Philippines, Ebondo is back representing his homeland on the global stage.
The versatile six-foot-six wingman — who has been in Congo’s program since he was 17 years old — is currently suiting up for the seniors’ squad in the third window of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
Monday morning (Philippine time), Ebondo and Congo took on Angola. The Congolese are already out for contention for the second round, but they finished the Qualifiers strong by upsetting Group C’s leaders, 66-56.
In the win, Ebondo had 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting along with four rebounds and an assist in nearly 22 minutes.
And serving as the biggest highlight of his performance was the near-halfcourt shot he made to beat the halftime buzzer after evading defenders. The shot was truly fun to watch, that it has already made rounds on social media.
Ebondo averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in the six games he played for Congo in the third window.
