There has been outcry lately, not only from fans but also from coaches and players.
Oliver Almadro, Roger Gorayeb, and Kungfu Reyes are just a few of the personalities who have called out the referees for their inconsistent calls.
UAAP Commissioner Noreen Go clarified the process of how they evaluate the officials after every match.
“When I hear about the comments, we address it. I talk to the chief referee, Nestor Belo. After every game there’s an evaluation – an interactive portion in the referee’s dugout,” she told Tibreaker Times. “So we talk about the game – the calls that they made, judgement calls that are somewhat questionable.”
Go is aware that there are plenty of criticisms over how the matches are being called. She assures that they are constantly working to clean up the questionable calls.
“We are still seeking to perfect it – it’s still a process. So far, we aren’t 100%, obviously we have complaints. We address it and hopefully we don’t make the same mistakes in the next games and have the same complaints,” she explained.
When it comes to sanctions or fines, Go explains that those aren’t necessary.
“We talk to them. Here in the UAAP, we get the best from different groups in the country – we don’t just get from one group. We believe in our referees. Our referees our the best in the country so we don’t need to sanction them,” she closed.
