San Beda taps Kungfu Reyes to lead Lady Red Spikers

Former University of Santo Tomas head coach Kungfu Reyes has been appointed as the new head coach of San Beda Universitys in the NCAA, the team announced Saturday night through its official Facebook page.

The appointment comes just over two weeks after Reyes was replaced by Shaq Delos Santos as the head coach of the UST Golden Tigresses for the upcoming UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

At San Beda, Reyes takes over from interim head coach Joshua Noda, who temporarily filled in for decorated NU boys’ volleyball tactician Edgar Barroga.

Despite his move to Mendiola, Reyes will continue to play a key role in UST’s volleyball program.

He remains the head coach of the Junior Golden Tigresses and serves as program director for both the girls’ and women’s divisions.

A veteran tactician who previously called the shots for Chery Tiggo in the PVL, Reyes brings a wealth of experience to a Lady Red Spikers squad eager for a breakthrough in the NCAA.

During his tenure at UST, he led the Golden Tigresses to five Final Four appearances and two championship berths in Seasons 81 and 86.

In the NCAA’s centennial season, San Beda finished eighth in the standings with a 4-14 win-loss record in the ten-team field.

Reyes is expected to mentor key players such as Angel Habacon, Kat Molina, and Rianne Bedural when Season 101 kicks off next year.

With Reyes now at the helm, San Beda — a university known for its 23 basketball titles in the seniors’ division — is setting its sights on achieving a historic first NCAA women’s volleyball crown.
