The fate of the College of Saint Benilde Blazers in the NCAA Season 94 Seniors Basketball Tournament is now out of their control. It’s in the hands of the Management Committee.
Last week, the school formally filed a letter of inquiry over four players from the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas being ineligible. If proven true, the Altas will have to forfeit all 17 of their wins. This will gift Benilde the last Final Four spot.
But if second-year head coach TY Tang were asked, it’s not about his team going into the Final Four. It’s about following rules.
“Well, with regards to the issue, we have written our letter of inquiry with regards to the ineligibility of the players. But for us, it’s up to the Board to decide on things. I trust our Man Com, our Board for that – they are really handling everything well. We’ll just leave it up to them,” shared Tang after CSB’s skid-snapping win over JRU, Tuesday.
“Wala naman yun sa technicality of the game anymore. There’s already previous cases that has happened with that. It might just look sourgraping on our part, but honestly, come what may for us.
“If we get in the Final Four, thank you. If it’s not, still thank you. We respect these decisions. That’s why I think this is the longest collegiate tournament in our country today, because of that,” he added.
As they await the decision of the Grand Old League, Tang is focusing on one thing: To end the season strong.
“I’ve been telling the team that whatever happens, we have to end the season strong. If we need two more wins, lets get those two more wins.”
