Tots Carlos made the most out of her limited minutes in Creamline’s four-set win over United Auctioneers Inc-Army in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Carlos provided the spark off the bench, contributing more than half of her seven-point output in the crucial fourth set where Cool Smashers head coach Sherwin Meneses opted to go all-Filipino during the latter part.
“Of course, very happy kasi limited yung time of playing na meron tayo so syempre gusto natin sulitin and nakakamiss din maglaro eh. Nakaka-miss maglaro and I’m very happy na nakalaro ako today and looking forward pa sa mga susunod,” said Carlos just moments after the win.
The back-to-back PVL MVP, who nursed a back injury at the start of the conference, saw her playing opportunities dwindle with the arrival of Turkish reinforcement Yelo Basa – who also plays the opposite spiker role.
But despite the limited playing time, Carlos said that she doesn’t mind taking the backseat for the Cool Smashers. Moreover, she said that she is more than ready to step up when her number is called.
“No, sobrang wala. Kasi we really trust Coach Sherwin’s system. And for sure, ang gusto lang naman ni coach, it’s not an individual sport naman eh, it’s a team sport so we understand our role, nae-explain naman samin yung sistema ni coach at ine-explain yung mga gusto nilang mangyari so we don’t really have to worry kasi yun lang naman din, kailangan lang din namin maging ready kapag kailangan kami nila coach,” said Carlos.
The 24-year-old Carlos played a pivotal role in Creamline’s back-to-back titles in the Open and Reinforced Conference where she also won two consecutive MVP and Best Opposite Hitter awards.
“If ever, yung team, syempre, kailangan din ng tulong, hindi naman kami mga superman so team work pa rin naman yung pinapairal namin palagi and yung guidance nila coach.”
