Team Pilipinas’ Obstacle Sports squad to train in US

To gear up for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in November 2019, the country’s top obstacle sports athletes will undergo training like they’ve never done before.

According to Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation president Atty. Al Agra, the POSF has formed a 20-strong national pool (10 male and 10 female).

From this group of athletes, the final team that will represent the country in the SEA Games from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 will soon be chosen.

Members of the SEA Games squad will be sent to Colorado to train at the USA Olympic Training Center. They will also be provided with international exposure.

The Philippine Sports Commission will provide funding for the team, including allowances for the athletes and coaches.

Six gold medals will be disputed in obstacle sports in the next SEA Games: two each in 100 meters (10 obstacles), 400m (12 obstacles), and 5 kms (20 obstacles).

Agra said the POSF, also recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the World Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) Federation, will leave no stone unturned forming the best team possible.

“It’s the first time obstacle course racing will be included in the SEA Games. We want to stamp our mark in this event,” said Agra.

“We will form the best team and we will provide them the best training they can get.”
