The Philippine obstacle course racing national team completed a golden sweep after winning both the men’s and women’s team relay titles in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the Chroy Charvang Convention Center – Car Park in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Ahgie Radan, Elias Tabac, Jose Mari De Castro, and Mefvin Guarte defeated the Malaysia quartet of Ghalib Mohamad Azimi, Mohd Redha Rozlan, Nuur Hafis Said Aliwi, and Yoong Wei Theng by finishing the course in a world record 24.478 seconds, compared to the latter’s 25.519 seconds, to claim the Philippines’ eighth gold.
Another gold followed when Marites Nocyao, Mecca Cortizano, Milky Tejares, and Sandhi Menchi Abahan beat top-seeded Indonesia, which had Anggun Yolanda Samsul Hadi, Ayu Puspita Sari, Mudji Mulyani, and Rahmayuna Fadillah, in the gold medal final with a time of 33.733 seconds against 35.060 seconds.
These results completed the four-gold conquest for the Philippine OCR team after Precious Cabuya won the women’s individual gold in world-record fashion and Mark Rodelas took the men’s individual title.
Kevin Pascua and Kaisen Dela Serna took silvers.
The squad also swept the golds at stake when the sport made its Games debut on home soil in 2019.
