NU secures commitments of Mindanao standouts Andrei Bolabola, Edvil Christian Mundas

National University has secured the commitments of two rising stars from Mindanao who shone brightly at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa held in Ilocos Norte.

Surigao del Sur-born setter Andrei Bolabola and Davao-native guard Edvil Christian Mundas have committed to join NU’s men’s volleyball and basketball teams, respectively.

The 6-foot Bolabola, a playmaker from Jacinto P. Elpa National High School, will bolster the Bulldogs’ setting corps alongside Greg Ancheta and Jeffe Gallego.

“It has always been a dream for me since I started playing volleyball,” Bolabola shared about his decision to join NU.

He expressed excitement about being mentored by head coach Dante Alinsunurin and assistant coach Jesse Lopez — two of the most respected figures in Philippine volleyball.

“I look forward to improving not just as a player, but also as an athlete. I know for sure that with their guidance, I’ll become better both on and off the court,” he added.

On the basketball front, Mundas played a key role in leading Davao to its historic first title in the secondary boys’ division of the Palaro.

He contributed seven points in their 67–51 championship win over Western Visayas.

The 6-foot-1 guard from Holy Child College of Davao initially committed to Letran but had a change of heart after consulting with his family, ultimately deciding to join the Bulldogs.

Both Bolabola and Mundas will be eligible to suit up for NU starting UAAP Season 88, with five playing years ahead of them.
