Jyne Soreño glad to rekindle bond with La Salle ‘idols’ at Chery Tiggo

Jyne Soreño feels beyond thrilled to reconnect with the players she once looked up to growing up.

The 5-foot-9 opposite spiker is ready to join a veteran cast of former De La Salle University standouts in Chery Tiggo after being selected eighth overall in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Rookie Draft held Sunday at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

Soreño, who hails from Negros Oriental, committed to the La Salle program under legendary coach Ramil de Jesus after Grade 11 and transferred to Taft for her senior year of high school.

During that transition year, the lefty spiker trained with De Jesus’ club squad F2 Logistics — a team largely composed of former Lady Spikers — allowing her to share the court with some of the very athletes she admired.

Now, it comes full circle as Soreño reunites with La Salle icons Ara Galang and Aby Maraño, who are currently part of the Crossovers’ roster.

“Sobrang excited talaga kasi since senior high school pa ako sa La Salle kasama ko na sila sa F2, so ngayon looking forward talaga ako,” said Soreño, the first of four Lady Spikers drafted this year.

“Nandoon na yung connection eh, nandoon na yung connection namin kahit ilang years or ilang months na hindi na po kami nagsama. Nandoon pa rin po yung bond as La Salle.”

Chery Tiggo, which has not reached the PVL podium since its 2021 Open Conference title run, looks to turn things around with a strong recruitment class in the upcoming season.

Alongside their first-round selection Soreño, the Crossovers picked up three more talents in the draft: unheralded spiker Erika Deloria from Enderun Colleges, University of Santo Tomas standout Renren Peñafiel, and San Beda University’s Reyann Cañete.
