James Yap is all set for a comeback.
The two-time PBA MVP will be returning in the upcoming Governors’ Cup after signing a fresh deal with Rain or Shine, the club announced Friday.
It marks the end of a lengthy absence for the 40-year-old, who last played in the 2021 Philippine Cup. In the interim, he focused on his councilorship campaign in San Juan.
Yap won a seat in the city’s first district in the last May polls.
The Elasto Painters, though, assured that Yap “will do his best to balance basketball and public service” now that he’ll play again.
The seven-time champion has actually been joining team practices recently, although he has been doing so and occasionally watching RoS games live prior.
But it appears that the Governors’ Cup will be his swan song.
Rain or Shine said that it offered Yap a one-year contract, but he opted to sign a one-conference deal instead.
The 16-time All-Star is currently at no. 4 in the league’s all-time three-pointers made list with 1,178, a record recently surpassed by LA Tenorio.
