There will be no back-to-back winner of the Regular Season Most Valuable Player in the MPL Philippines, as Bren Esports and ECHO grabbed the top two spots, respectively, in the regular season of Season 11.
Johnmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna, the reigning MVP, is not eligible to retain her crown after Blacklist International settled for the third seed and fell short of claiming one of the top two seeds.
Only players from the number one and two seeds are qualified to win the Regular Season MVP.
In addition, players who won a weekly MVP or made a major impact on their team’s success throughout the first eight weeks will be considered for the prestigious award.
Leading the Season 11 MVP race are Bren Esports’ gold laner Stephen “Super Marco” Requitano and roamer Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, and ECHO jungler Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno.
Super Marco, who has been a key part of Bren Esports’ rise this season, nabbed two Player of the Week citations in the first and fifth weeks of the regular season.
The 16-year-old rising star had five match MVP awards as well, tying ECHO’s middle lane duo of Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera and Alston “Sanji” Pabico with the third-most in the league.
Meanwhile, Owgwen leads the league in match MVP honors with a total of 10 out of Bren Esports’ 30 matches in the regular season.
Both players played a pivotal role in turning Bren Esports into a legitimate title contender this season. Together, they powered the M2 world champion to a nine-game winning streak en route to securing the top spot through an 11-3 win-loss standing, along with a league-best 31 points.
KarlTzy is not too far behind after registering the second-most match MVP awards in the regular season with six. His steady play in the jungle also allowed the reigning world champion to secure the second seed through an 11-3 slate with 29 markers.
ECHO’s Yawi (1 WMVP, 5 MMVP) and Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales (1 WMVP, 3 MMVP) are also on track to win the award.
The MPL Philippines is set to proclaim the winners before the grand finals on May 7 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
