Owgwen remains optimistic after Team Falcons’s playoff exit: ‘Marami pa kaming matututunan’

Despite falling short in the playoffs, Rowgien “Owgwen” still chose to focus on the positives and the lessons he gained from Team Falcons PH’s late-season resurgence.

In an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times, Owgwen shared how he entered the season with high hopes, especially after narrowly missing out on the last MSC slot the previous year — only for things to take an unexpected turn.

“Inexpect ko talaga nung season na ‘to bago mag-start, at least top 1 or top 2 kami sa regular season eh. Kaso nga di namin na-meet yung gusto kong expectation,” Owgwen said.

“Siguro sa confidence namin sa bawat galaw namin, talagang na-down kami nung mga time na na-lose streak kami.”

Even with their struggles, Owgwen attributed their Cinderella run to a mix of luck and timing, believing that the team simply found their rhythm when it mattered most.

“Feeling ko 50-50, pero para sa’kin talaga, more on swerte. Para sa’kin, 70-30 pala,” he said.

“Sobrang importante kase nga after namin ma-meet yung condition na kailangan para makapasok sa playoffs, talagang kailangan nalang namin galingan or at least matalo yung mga kalaban namin na dapat naming talunin.”

The veteran roamer also reflected on the contrast between Team Falcons’ previous encounters with Team Liquid Philippines and their recent one, noting that their opponents’ renewed focus made a big difference.

“Sa ngayon, sobrang focus sila sa sarili nila, talagang di nila iniisip yung kalaban nila. Sa’min naman, talagang finofocusan namin yung kalaban, finofocusan namin sarili namin,. Siguro may factor din siguro yun,” he shared.

The M5 world champion admitted that their early playoff exit was difficult to accept, especially considering the hard work and dedication they poured into the season.

“Siyempre nakakapanibago, laglag ka agad sa playoffs. Tsaka nakakalungkot isipin na first round exit kami, kaming Team Falcons, kasi maraming mataas yung expectations talaga yung fans namin, at least para sa’min,” he said.

Looking ahead to the next season, the seasoned roamer aims to develop his own signature hero and further elevate his gameplay to match the league’s best.

“Tingin ko yung one-trick siguro, galingan ko sa pagiging one-trick, kase sobrang dominating ng ibang teams kasi may mga signature hero talaga sila,” Owgwen said.

“Kasi kami wala pa kaming signature hero, kahit ako eh, nung last week ko pa siya nalabas yung mga Franco, Kaja.”
