Patrick King Perez reigned in the men’s individual recognized poomsae event of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Perez recaptured the gold that the Philippines conceded in the previous edition with a score of 104.100 points.
With this Games title, the country has now reached the 30-gold mark. This gold also marks the second for taekwondo, following the women’s team ending a 12-year title drought earlier in the afternoon.
Perez, a student-athlete from De La Salle University, clinched the title by demonstrating precise execution of the two required poomsae forms, placing the Philippines back on the podium in this event after missing out on the previous edition.
As the first-ever UAAP Rookie of the Year in Poomsae, Perez secured his second consecutive medal in the Games.
He previously won a silver as part of the men’s recognized poomsae team in the 2021 Vietnam Games, alongside Enrico Mella and Junior Reyes, the individual champion from the 2019 games in Manila.
