St. Dominic College of Asia ended the long reign of La Consolacion College Manila on Friday, clinching its first-ever Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA) Seniors Basketball championship.
The Pikemen edged out the Blue Royals with a hard-fought 60-54 victory at LCCM’s home floor.
It was a dominant season for SDCA, who suffered only one loss throughout the campaign.
Their road to glory also included a win in Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite, where they secured an identical 60-54 scoreline.
The title-clinching game was a tightly contested affair, with neither side gaining a significant edge until SDCA made a decisive late-game push.
Locked at 51-all, the Pikemen unleashed an 8-0 run, shutting down the Blue Royals’ hopes of retaining their crown.
Despite leading for only 10 minutes in a game that featured 10 lead changes and seven deadlocks, SDCA delivered when it mattered most.
Joseph Timtiman spearheaded SDCA’s attack with 14 points, while Michael Sosing contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.
Timtiman’s stellar performance earned him the Finals MVP honors, while Edward Daquioag, the younger brother of UST great Ed Daquioag, was named the tournament MVP.
Joining Sosing and Daquioag in the Mythical Five were LCCM’s Christian Alonzo and Kenneth Castillo, along with World Citi College’s Klein Lizan.
WCC’s Louie Lime also received recognition as the Defensive Player of the Year.
The Blue Royals, supported by sponsors Demigod, Pureblends, Uratex, A-Game, and Infinite Basketball, leaned heavily on Christian Alonzo, who finished with 15 points despite struggling with a 5-of-16 shooting clip.
Michael Urmeneta chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds in a valiant effort.
Earlier in the day, LCCM successfully defended their Juniors title, completing a sweep of the division with a 77-63 win over ALIAC.
Erick Cordano led the charge for the Blue Royals’ Juniors team, scoring 21 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting.
Alejandro Garcia recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcus Saad added 16 points to seal the victory.
In the Juniors division, ALIAC’s Ralfh Cruz was named the MVP, while teammate John Gener was awarded Defensive Player of the Year.
The Mythical Five for the division featured Cruz, Garcia, Harley Resurrecion, and Treton’s Frince Bueza.
