SBP expects Blatche to return next week for Gilas tune-ups

Naturalized big man Andray Blatche is expected to return to the Philippines in a week’s time after a slight delay in his schedule.

Gilas team manager Butch Antonio said the team expects Blatche to be in the country by next week. Blatche was initially expected to be in the country by mid-May although had to attend to important family matters.

“We expect Andray to join us next week. We are trying to get him as early as we can. He just has some private family matters, medyo importante siya eh,” Blatche shared. “Latest would probably be the 27th (May).”

Gilas will play Iran in a scrimmage in the first week of June, before embarking on a European tour which shall see the team travel to Italy, Greece, and Turkey.

“We will take 14 when we go to Europe. The Iran scrimmage on (June) 8th might be the day we make some decisions. We want to test our guys out in that setting then the game the next day will probably reflect who makes the 14. Then after that we won’t cut down to 12 until we have to,” Baldwin said.
