Andray Blatche could be hanging up his sneakers soon.
The former Gilas cornerstone hinted that his stint with Strong Group Athletics in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship could be his swan song.
“I think this tournament might be my last tournament,” he said.
Blatche said as much in a quick chat with reporters on Saturday evening as he watched the PBA Commissioner’s Cup duel between Converge and TNT.
The ex-NBA veteran was in attendance to support his SGA guys including deputy coach Charles Tiu, who’s calling the shots for the ball club.
He’s been in the country for days now for another run in the Dubai tilt and he’s flying into the January 24-February 2 showpiece armed with extra motivation.
Well, it’s already a given that he wants to bring home the gold this time after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Al Riyadi in the Final of last year’s edition.
It could be recalled that the Filipino team fell prey to a buzzer-beating triple by Ismail Abdel Moneim, then 47 years old, thus settling for a silver-medal finish.
But more than shooting for payback in the City of Gold, Blatche wants to go out a champion in what could be his last run before calling it quits.
“I’m getting to the age where it’s almost over at this point,” said the 38-year-old, who was drafted by Washington in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft.
“This might be my last show, this year.”
