ONIC PH bounces back with sweep of Area 77, nears MSC playoffs

ONIC Philippines roared back in dominant fashion, sweeping Area 77, 2-0, to move just one win away from securing a spot in the playoffs of the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2025 on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The reigning M-Series world champions now await the winner of the matchup between Malaysia’s Homebois and Europe’s Team Spirit to determine who they’ll face for a ticket to the playoffs.

After a tightly contested early game in Game 1, the Sonics seized momentum following a perfectly timed Tsunami Slam from Borris “Brusko” Parro’s Kalea on Lance Gabriel “SHIRO” Nones’ Yi Sun Shin during a 13th-minute skirmish near the Lord pit. The play sparked a 2-for-none trade and secured the Lord objective for ONIC.

King “K1NGKONG” Perez (Lancelot) and Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez (Kagura) followed it up with a kill each less than a minute later, breaking Area 77’s final defensive stand and securing the 1-0 series lead.

Game 2 was a one-sided affair from the get-go. K1NGKONG, this time on Yi Sun Shin, notched two early kills on SHIRO’s Suyou before the two-minute mark, setting the tone for ONIC’s aggressive early game.

Duane “Kelra” Pillas (Irithel) later put the finishing touches on the match with a triple kill, leading a near-solo 5-for-1 wipeout in the closing moments to seal the series.

ONIC found itself in a must-win situation after dropping its tournament opener in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Aurora Türkiye. But with this bounce-back win, the Sonics are now just one step away from the MSC 2025 playoffs.
