Blu Girls miss World Cup berth after bronze match cancelled due to rain

The Philippine Blu Girls settled for fourth place for the third consecutive edition of the Women’s Softball Asia Cup, as the final day of the 2025 tournament was canceled due to heavy rain at the Xi’an Physical Education University Softball Stadium in China.

Organizers were forced to call off the scheduled bronze medal match between the Blu Girls and Chinese Taipei due to inclement weather.

With the final matches canceled, the tournament’s final rankings were determined based on the preliminary round standings.

The Philippines ended with a 6-3 win-loss record, placing them fourth overall.

As a result, the Blu Girls missed out on a World Cup berth, which was awarded only to the top three finishers — Japan, China, and Chinese Taipei.

Still, the Blu Girls will have a shot at redemption as they have qualified as one of eight teams set to compete for medals at the 2026 Asian Games.
