San Miguel vs Suwon KT, Meralco vs Macao to open EASL season at MOA Arena


The East Asia Super League (EASL) has officially released its schedule for its 2024-25 season, featuring 34 games that will determine the premier basketball club champion of East Asia.

The new season is set to kick off on October 2, 2024, and will run through to the Final Four championship weekend from March 7-9, 2025.

The expanded Group Stage will last from October 2, 2024, to February 12, 2025.

This season’s Group Stage includes several high-profile double-header events. The opening games, dubbed the EASL Tipoff, will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on October 2nd.

The matchup features San Miguel Beermen facing off against KT Sonicboom, followed by Meralco Bolts taking on the Macao Black Bears.

Additionally, the EASL Mid-Season Classic will be held in Macau on December 11th, showcasing Taoyuan Pilots versus KT Sonicboom and Macao Black Bears against New Taipei Kings.

The EASL has expanded from eight to ten teams for this season, welcoming new entrants Hong Kong Eastern and the Macao Black Bears.

As a result, the round-robin home-and-away Group Stage will see an increase from 24 to 30 games.

In Group A, the teams include B.LEAGUE champion Hiroshima Dragonflies, Korean Basketball League (KBL) runner-up Suwon KT Sonicboom, P. LEAGUE+ runner-up Taoyuan Pauian Pilots, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup champion San Miguel Beermen, and Hong Kong Eastern.

Group B consists of B.LEAGUE runner-up Ryukyu Golden Kings, KBL champion Busan KCC Egis, P.LEAGUE+ champion New Taipei Kings, PBA Philippines Cup champion Meralco Bolts, and Macau Black Bears.

EASL CEO Henry Kerins expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming season, stating, “The 34-game EASL season is the ultimate test in Asian club basketball. After an incredible performance during our first season in 2023-24, this is now understood by teams, players, and fans alike. EASL is ‘Where Champions Clash,’ the pinnacle of professional basketball in Asia.

“Fans all across Asia, whether in person or via our expanded broadcast coverage for the 2024-25 season, will experience the highest level of basketball played in Asia today; EASL’s thrilling competition to become champion.”
