The Philippines yielded to Chinese Taipei, 8-3, and settled for the silver medal in the Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball Asia Cup in Pattaya, Thailand on Saturday, May 27.
The Filipino batters gave everything they could in hopes of avenging their previous loss to the same rival, but the Taiwanese were too much to handle.
Despite the defeat, the Filipinos still earned a spot in the WBSC Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball World Cup scheduled for later this year.
“Though we may have fallen short, we proudly clinched the silver medal… displaying incredible teamwork and determination throughout,” said ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier.
“Your hard work, determination, and teamwork have truly paid off, and you have made our nation proud.”
The team, backed by Cebuana Lhuillier, opened its campaign with a 7-6 upset victory over powerhouse China and followed it up with a 15-6 thrashing of Singapore.
They bowed to Chinese Taipei, 12-8, but recovered with a 31-11 thrashing of host Thailand to arrange a gold-medal match against the Taiwanese.
The male members of the team are Dino Altomonte, Isidro Abello, Jerome Bacarisas, Benjamin Cope, Denis Nelson, Tomas Pablo Panlilio, and Julius Visaya.
Cheska Altomonte, Khrisha Cantor, Elsie Dela Torre, Angelu Gabriel, Madeleine Lhuillier, MJ Maguad, CJ Roa, Jenette Rusia, and Charlotte Sales are the female players.
