Deanna Wong crowned runaway ‘Fan Favorite’ in inaugural PVL Press Corps Awards

Choco Mucho setter Deanna Wong continues to reign as one of the Philippines’ most beloved volleyball stars.

Wong’s overwhelming fan base propelled her to the Fan Favorite title at the first-ever Pilipinas Live PVL Press Corps Awards Night held on May 28 at Novotel Manila.

In the fan-driven awards presented by ArenaPlus, Wong garnered an impressive 24,000 reactions on the PVL Press Corps’ official Facebook page — leaving the competition in the dust.

Despite being the lone non-Creamline player on the shortlist, the Flying Titans playmaker outshone top names such as Jema Galanza (12,000), Alyssa Valdez (10,000), and Bea De Leon (6,400).

Her landslide win came as no surprise, thanks to her massive social media following: 866,000 followers on Facebook, 1.4 million on Instagram, and 2.4 million on TikTok, who showed up in full force to support their idol.

Fans also got to decide the Pilipinas Live Game of the Year, awarding the honor to the thrilling PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals Game 2 showdown between PLDT and Choco Mucho.

The Flying Titans survived the five-set thriller, 25-15, 12-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13, in a match played before a packed Philsports Arena crowd on March 20. The win sent them to the semifinals in what was dubbed a “cardiac finish.”

The high-stakes clash, highlighted by the electrifying duel between Choco Mucho’s Sisi Rondina and PLDT’s Savi Davison, received the most Facebook reactions during the voting period from May 2 to 16, collecting 3,100 reactions.

It bested several other memorable matches, including:

The Crossovers, who were the PVL’s inaugural professional champions, edged out Akari by just one green card to earn the recognition, which honors sportsmanship and respect for the game.

Fans will also get the chance to pick the Star of the Night, a red carpet award for the evening’s most dazzling player. The winner will be determined by the highest number of Facebook reactions on the PVL Press Corps page.
