Filipina5 exit Futsal Asian Cup with loss to Hong Kong

Despite finding the back of the net three times, the Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team bowed out of the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025 following a third consecutive defeat — a 7-3 drubbing at the hands of Hong Kong on Sunday at the Hohhot Sports Centre in China.

Dionesa Tolentin gave the Philippines a dream start, breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute with the nation’s first-ever goal in the competition.

However, Hong Kong responded swiftly. So Hoi Lam equalized just a minute later in the 14th, and Charis Yuet Kung handed Hong Kong the lead in the 17th minute.

In the second half, Hong Kong went on a scoring spree, finding the back of the net five more times past Philippine goalkeeper Samantha Hughes.

Cheung Wai Ki converted a corner kick from So to extend Hong Kong’s lead to 3-1 in the 35th minute. Charis Yuet Kung followed with her second goal of the match to widen the gap to 4-1.

Wu Choi Yu then struck twice — registering Hong Kong’s fifth and seventh goals — while So Hoi Lam added another in between to complete the rout.

Aside from Tolentin, fellow UAAP standouts Shai del Campo and Isabella Bandoja scored second-half consolation goals for the Philippines.

With the loss, the Philippines finished at the bottom of Group B, with zero points and a -8 goal difference after three matches.

In contrast, Hong Kong advanced to the quarterfinals as one of the two best third-placed teams, finishing with three points and an even goal difference. They will join Group B leaders Vietnam and Iran, who both ended the group stage with six points.
