Filipina5 end ASEAN Futsal campaign on high with stalemate vs Australia

The Filipina5 closed their campaign in the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship on a valiant note, earning a 1-1 draw against Australia on Thursday in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Needing a win to advance from Group B, the Filipina5 fell behind in the 40th minute. Clare Holder gave Australia the lead against the run of play, leaving the Filipinas’ goal empty.

But the response was immediate. Seconds later, Nicole Borres converted a tap-in, securing a hard-fought draw to end the Philippines’ tournament journey on a positive note.

Rafa Merino’s squad finishes the championship with four points, following a win over Myanmar last Tuesday, a loss to Vietnam, and this resilient stalemate.

Australia (7 points) and defending champion Vietnam (6 points) advance to the next round.

Overall, this campaign marked an improvement for the Philippines, which failed to earn a single point when it hosted the inaugural edition in Pasig City two years ago.
