Filipina5 miss SEA Games bronze after heavy loss to Thailand

The Filipina5 wrapped up their campaign in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games with a 5-0 loss to host Thailand on Thursday at the Bangkokthonburi University Gymnasium, missing out on the bronze medal and settling for a fourth-place finish.

Despite the result, the Philippines managed to notch its first SEA Games victory since 2007, though it also absorbed three losses, two of them at the hands of the Thais.

Thailand effectively put the match away early, scoring three goals within the opening seven minutes.

Saetoen Arriya struck in the third minute, followed by goals from Tongdee Sasikarn in the sixth and Huajaipetch Paerploy in the seventh to give the hosts a commanding start.

The rout was completed in the second half as Bubpha Jenjira found the net in the 35th minute, while Nakmai Suchanat added another in the 39th.

The SEA Games campaign capped a busy year for the Filipina5, who competed in both the qualification and competition proper of the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup, as well as the 2025 FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup.

Looking ahead, one possible competition on the horizon for the national team is the 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, scheduled to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
