Spearheaded by captain Inday Tolentin, the Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team made a winning start in its 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, edging Myanmar 1-0 on Tuesday in Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand.
Tolentin, who won three UAAP football titles with Far Eastern University, scored the winning goal in the 15th minute.
The former Lady Tamaraw received the ball from former University of Santo Tomas standout Bhebe Lemoran and unleashed a right-footed shot from outside the box to give the Filipina5 the breakthrough.
Rafa Merino’s side moves into second place in Group B following the win. While the Philippines is level with Australia on three points — after the latter’s 2–0 victory over Vietnam — the former remains in the runner-up spot due to an inferior goal difference.
Moreover, this was the country’s first-ever win in this competition. It previously failed to get a victory when it hosted the maiden edition two years ago.
Up next for the Philippines will be defending champion Vietnam at 2:30 PM at the same venue.
