Alas Pilipinas joins VTV Cup in Vietnam

Alas Pilipinas is set for a second tournament in Vietnam, competing in the 2025 VTV International Cup just two weeks after their upcoming campaign in the AVC Women’s Nations Cup.

Contrary to earlier reports that reigning Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference champions Petro Gazz would be participating in the tournament, Philippine National Volleyball Federation President Tats Suzara clarified that it will be the national team — not the Angels — representing the country.

“Yes, Alas will participate in the VTV Cup, not Petro Gazz,” Suzara confirmed to Tiebreaker Times via text message.

Alas Pilipinas, which has been training continuously since the conclusion of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, is set to compete in the VTV Cup scheduled from June 28 to July 5 in Vietnam.

Brazilian head coach Jorge Souza de Brito will have a deep roster to work with.

Already training with the squad are Jia De Guzman, Maddie Madayag, Jeanette Panaga, MJ Phillips, Dell Palomata, Jennifer Nierva, Justine Jazareno, Fifi Sharma, and Tia Andaya.

Joining them in training are early attendees Eya Laure, Mars Alba, Julia Coronel, Dawn Catindig, Vanie Gandler, and Thea Gagate, as well as collegiate standouts Shaina Natura, Clarisse Lorresco, Bella Belen, and Lams Lamina.

The VTV Cup marks the beginning of a busy international schedule for Alas Pilipinas, who are also slated to participate in the AVC Women’s Nations Cup, the Southeast Asian V.League, and the Southeast Asian Games.

National University represented the country in the previous edition.

Choco Mucho also participated in the event in 2023 and clinched the bronze medal with a four-set victory over Japan’s Kansai University.
