Capital1 stormed into the top three of the PFF Women’s League standings after a dominant 6-0 win over University of the Philippines, joining league leaders Stallion Laguna and Kaya-Iloilo in extending their win streaks into the seventh weekend of competition at the SM Mall of Asia Football Pitch.
With the victory, Capital1 dislodged Makati from third place in the table.
Judie Arevalo (5’, 90+4’) and Maria Layacan (48’, 50’) both netted braces, while Kyza Colina (64’) and Elna Bongol (90+1’) rounded out the scoring in a match that saw Capital1 in complete control from start to finish.
Stallion Laguna, meanwhile, retained their position at the top of the standings with a 3-0 win over University of Santo Tomas.
While the scoreline suggests a routine victory, it took grit and patience to break down UST’s stubborn defense.
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Yanzie Yalong finished off a clever flicked header from Kala McDaniel.
Just seven minutes later, McDaniel delivered her second assist of the game, setting up Sierra Castles for a clean strike from the top of the box.
Annika Gutierrez sealed the win in the 86th minute, pouncing on a rebound following a missed attempt from Chandler McDaniel.
However, tempers flared late in the match, leading to red cards for Pauline San Buenaventura, Bianca Sy, and Alija Lacson after a post-goal scuffle.
The day’s triple-header concluded with a gripping showdown between Kaya-Iloilo and Makati, where Kaya escaped with a hard-fought 2-1 win.
Sara Castañeda fired Kaya into the lead in the 32nd minute with a sensational strike.
Makati equalized early in the second half as Sheva Furyzcha sprinted past Hali Long to score in the 52nd minute.
With momentum swinging both ways, Kaya finally found the breakthrough in the 87th minute as Maegan Alforque unleashed a long-range rocket that proved to be the match-winner.
The action resumes this Wednesday, May 14, when Makati FC takes on UST at 7 p.m.
Another triple-header is lined up for Saturday, May 17: UP vs. Makati FC at 3:30 p.m., Capital1 vs. UST at 6:10 p.m., and the much-anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Stallion Laguna and Kaya-Iloilo at 8:50 p.m.
