Defending champion ONIC Philippines wrapped up their MPL Philippines Season 15 regular season campaign on a high note, extending their winning streak to 10 games after sweeping Twisted Minds, 2-0, on Saturday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.
Despite their red-hot run, ONIC (11-3) must still await the result of Aurora’s final match. A loss by Aurora would secure ONIC a direct slot in the upper bracket of the playoffs.
Twisted Minds entered the game ready with their bag of tricks as coach Kristoffer “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza subbed in Stephen “Sensui” Castillo for Michael “MP the King” Endino in the jungler role.
ONIC, however, came prepared.
“I think yung execution ng team (ang naging key sa panalo) and medyo inisip din namin na baka maglaro si Tep (Sensui) nagcome up din kami ng scenarios sa ganun. It’s a good thing na prepared naman yung team na labanan yung ganung set-up so good job sa kanila,” explained ONIC coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin that they already anticipated Twisted Minds’ move in today’s match-up.
In Game 1, ONIC executed a genius sandwich play midway through the 22nd lord dance that resulted in a Duane “Kelra” Pillas (Harith) triple kill for a game-winning 4-0 wipe.
Kelra bagged the Game MVP honors with a near spotless 5-1-2 KDA.
The Gold Standard once again went on rampage in Game 2 as he finished with a 7-1-2 KDA to lead ONIC’s 14-minute closeout victory.
Twisted Minds enters the playoff as the sixth seed and will either face ONIC or Aurora.
