Robbie Herndon glad to find home in NLEX

After going unsigned by San Miguel, forward Robbie Herndon feels glad to have found a new home in NLEX.

Herndon made his debut with the Road Warriors in the PBA On Tour game against Meralco, which they lost, 83-96, on Wednesday night at the Ynares Arena in Pasig. The 29-year-old Filipino-American swingman played for nearly 24 minutes.

He scored nine points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field.

“I’m happy. I’m just glad and blessed to be back on the court. So far, so good with NLEX. They have already made me feel at home, and I’ve only been here for a week, so that’s the most important thing to me,” said Herndon after the loss.

The 6-foot-3 forward, who recently signed a two-year deal with NLEX, admitted that he is still in the process of regaining his game shape after spending the last month without a team.

“I’m a little bit out of shape because I’ve been waiting to sign with a team for over a month, but I’ll get back in shape, and I’ll be ready to go. So far, so good,” Herndon revealed.

Herndon expressed his eagerness to build chemistry with his new teammates as he aims to help the Road Warriors surpass their quarterfinal finish in the 2023 PBA Governor’s Cup last March.

“I’m just excited to continue building chemistry and learn how the team plays, how certain players play, and establish a strong bond with each teammate. I want to keep growing and improving,” said Herndon.

“Well, I just want to prove to the team and show them what I can do. I want to contribute to the team’s success. This team has talented players, so the goal is to make it to the semifinals at least, but the ultimate goal, of course, is to win a championship. So, one step at a time,” he continued.

The San Francisco State product is now with his fourth team since joining the league in 2017. He previously played for Magnolia before having stints with Alaska (now Converge) and San Miguel.

“I just want to continue building and growing. I’m still new here, but Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I’ll take it step by step.”
