Though he has no problems with Calvin Abueva, Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. said that the apology should have been directed to his girlfriend Maika Rivera, following the disrespectful acts allegedly made by the Beast to the young female celebrity two nights ago.
Abueva went to social media platform Instagram Friday night just a few hours after the Blackwater-Phoenix game where he allegedly cursed and did a lewd gesture towards Rivera. He then aired his side regarding the incident.
The 31-year-old apologized to the well-traveled rookie, but not to Rivera.
“To be honest I didn’t see or heard of it, but I appreciate it. But I feel like it should be more directed towards Maika,” said Parks. “Because before this, me and Calvin had no issues. I feel like it’s just more of trying to protect Maika.
“At the end of the day, she’s still a woman.”
Parks also knows that Rivera wouldn’t spew any racist remarks towards Abueva. Abueva, a seven-year pro, alleged that Rivera called him a “monkey” during that game, which saw the Fuel Masters come out victorious, 103-98.
“There were some derogatory [remarks] that have been said. I know one thing for sure, though, my girl is not racist. She comes from a good family, she’s dating me. I’m same as Calvin, Fil-Am also,” said the son of PBA legend Bobby Parks.
“It would be discriminatory to me if she would have said that word that was allegedly said.”
Though it may take some time before everybody involved in this incident can move on, Parks is just doing his job as a professional. All that the National University product cares about is helping Blackwater rack up wins.
The Elite achieved a victory on Sunday, as they downed the Denzel Bowles-reinforced Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 98-92, to immediately get back on track and improve to 4-1 in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“For right now, I just wanna focus on the PBA and do what we need to do, be professionals about it.”
