Poy Erram is expected to miss a significant amount of time for TNT as he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury on his left knee.
The veteran big man revealed the news via Instagram on Sunday, days after the Tropang 5G bowed to San Miguel in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup Finals.
“With a heavy heart, I share that I’ve suffered an ACL injury,” he wrote.
Erram did not play in the last two games of the recent title bout after an MRI scan found a meniscus tear in that same knee.
The 36-year-old suffered the said injury in Game 4 last Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena when he decided to fight through a badly sprained right ankle.
That ankle injury — that happened during Game 2 — was the reason why he sat out the following match, in which he was seen wearing a protective boot.
Still, he made it a point to show up for the Tropang 5G and provide all the support he could give, but the crew ultimately fell short on a Grand Slam.
And making it worse is the ACL injury found upon closer inspection, which could mean sitting out for a full year for the 12-year veteran out of Ateneo.
It’s a massive blow for TNT’s Season 50 campaign in which it will have to defend both the Commissioner’s and Governors’ Cup titles.
As tough as his predicament is, Erram chooses to remain positive.
“It’s painful, it’s frustrating, and I have every reason to be mad. But I also know that God has a greater plan for me,” the four-time PBA champion wrote.
“This setback will only make me stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually. I trust that this journey will bring me even closer to Him,” he added.
Erram is expected to undergo knee surgery during the offseason.
