Poy Erram has been ruled out of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup after a meniscus tear was found on his left knee following a medical scan.
What was initially thought of as a case of a hamstring injury turned far worse, prompting TNT doctors to shut him down for the rest of the series.
“Nagpa-MRI kami kanina, nagkaroon ng meniscal tear yung left leg ko. Ngayon namamaga siya, so kailangan kong ipa-surgery,” he said.
The 36-year-old said as much on Wednesday night, shortly after the Tropang 5G stopped San Miguel from clinching the title in Game 5 with an 86-78 victory at the SMART Araneta Coliseum to extend their run for at least one game.
He no longer suited up and was reduced to a spectator on the sidelines due to the injury he suffered back in Game 4 last Sunday at the MoA Arena.
Erram decided to play through a slight ligament tear on his right ankle in that match, only to sustain another injury.
“‘Yung feeling ko kasi last game, gumanon ‘yung tuhod ko eh,” he said, his hands gesturing a twisting motion. “Siyempre naka-gamot kasi ako, so hindi ko masyadong naramdaman. Kinabukasan, dun na. Magang-maga na siya.”
Now he’s nursing both, and can only lament his current situation, knowing what’s at stake for him and TNT in this series.
“Hanggang ngayon, magang-maga pa nga,” he said, referring to his hurting ankle. “Wala pa siyang masyadong motion, medyo itim pa rin siya.
“Pero part talaga ng trabaho ‘yun eh. Siyempre once na mag-step ka sa court, [there’s] a risk eh, ‘di ba,” added the 12-year pro out of Ateneo.
Still, Erram will continue to join his team to show support while he continues to recover — and wait for a schedule to go under the knife.
“Manonood pa rin naman ako. ‘Yun na lang magagawa ko,” he said. “Support them, kausapin ‘yung mga players kung anong kailangang gawin offensively, defensively; kung ano ‘yung mga nakikita ko sa loob. Ayun na lang talaga.”
Erram is expected to be out for three to four months due to his meniscus injury.
