Philippines falls to Hong Kong for first time in AVC-sanctioned tourney

The Philippine women’s national volleyball team concluded its group phase campaign without a win.

Last Friday, the Filipinas suffered a disappointing 25-21, 25-21, 25-11 loss at the hands of Hong Kong, marking their third consecutive defeat in the 22nd Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima.

This marks the first time a Philippine women’s team lost to Hong Kong, dominating their last three encounters prior to this.

While the Philippines managed to keep it close in the first two sets, they appeared to lose momentum in the third set as Hong Kong started with a blistering 8-3 lead.

From there, the Filipinas never managed to recover, trailing by as much as 13 points before eventually losing the third frame, 11-25.

Following this loss, the Philippines will proceed to the classification phase, where they will face Iran on Sunday. Hong Kong, on the other hand, will also compete against Iran on Monday.

The Filipinas concluded their group phase campaign with a 0-3 record, while Hong Kong finished third with a 1-2 slate.
