NorthPort has parted ways with Mychal Ammons and will welcome Michael Qualls as its new import for the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup, multiple sources have told Tiebreaker Times.
This move by the Batang Pier came even after they snapped their four-game losing skid at the expense of the struggling Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters, 80-70, last October 12.
NorthPort has become the second team this week to switch foreign reinforcements, next to Phoenix Pulse.
With this decision, Ammons’ PBA return has been cut short. The former TNT KaTropa import averaged 18.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks in six games.
Taking his place is Qualls, a 25-year-old guard who last played for the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G-League.
Qualls had also played for the Texas Legends and Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League. His first pro stints were with Hapoel Gilboa Galil in Israel (2016-2017) and Pallacanestro Cantu in Italy (2017).
Qualls is a product of Arkansas, where he will always be remembered by its faithful as he made a game-winning dunk that shocked a Julius Randle-led Kentucky back in 2014.
