Kevin Quiambao out for two weeks with ankle injury

Goyang Sono forward Kevin Quiambao received unfortunate news on Monday after an MRI confirmed a Grade 1 ankle sprain, sidelining the versatile 6-foot-5 standout for at least two weeks.

The injury occurred during Goyang’s match against Seoul SK in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) on Sunday.

Quiambao, who has been delivering an impressive debut, started strong with two three-pointers and a rebound.

However, at the 7:42 mark of the second quarter, he landed awkwardly on Oh Sekuen’s foot while attempting another three-pointer, causing the injury.

Seoul SK capitalized on Goyang’s depleted roster, cruising to an 84-57 victory.

The loss extended the Skygunners’ struggles, plunging them into a five-game skid and a 9-20 record.

Goyang Sono is also without Lee Junghyun, who is expected to miss two months due to injury.

For Quiambao, the timing of the setback adds uncertainty to his availability for the February window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

The Philippines will host Chinese Taipei on February 20 before flying to Auckland for a showdown with New Zealand on February 23.
