Smart Omega denied Twisted Minds’ reverse sweep attempt with a 2-1 victory in MPL Philippines Season 15, Friday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.
In their earlier matchup, it was also Omega that came out with a tough 2-0 sweep over Twisted Minds. This time around, however, both teams split the first two games of the series to set up an all-important third game.
When it mattered the most, Omega took its chances at selecting Ling for Andrew “Andoryuuu” Flora in the jungle role. Andoryuuu repaid his coaches’ trust as he took control of the game with a 7/0/5 KDA through a swift 11-minute game.
Despite scoring a win in the important faceoff, Omega head coach Lemuel “Lembot” Lucban admitted that his team needs to work on their assertiveness and consistency as games against Aurora Philippines, AP.Bren, and ONIC Philippines remain on their schedule.
“Marami kasing factor katulad nung kaba, parang minsan bigla nalang kakabahan si ganito si ganyan, hindi niya napapansin hindi na siya naglalaro ng maayos. Yun kailangan namin maiwasan moving sa stage,” he explained.
To open the series, Omega managed to escape with a comeback win in 14 minutes and eight seconds of action as Andoryuuu’s Hayabusa was on point with six kills and four assists.
In the following game, Twisted Minds bounced back with a dominating performance as Salic “Hadjizy” Imam’s Yve was simply unstoppable, scoring five eliminations and seven assists without falling once.
With today’s win, Omega (2-9) boosted its chances as it moved to solo sixth. However, the Baranggay will once again be tested as it clashes with Aurora this Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
On the same day, Twisted Minds will face off against AP.Bren as both teams look to improve their own odds of reaching the playoffs, with the Minds and the Hive sitting at the 7th and 8th seeds, respectively.
