Aurora ties ONIC’s MPL PH record with 13-game win streak after sweeping Omega

By: George Torno

Aurora tied ONIC Philippines for the longest winning streak in league history after outlasting Smart Omega, 2-0, in the final week of MPL Philippines Season 16 on Saturday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.

The victory extended Aurora’s streak to 13 consecutive wins, further cementing their dominant regular-season campaign.

ONIC previously set the record two seasons ago — a streak that, coincidentally, ended in their final regular-season match against Omega.

Aurora PH’s head coach Anniel “Master the Basics” Jiandani emphasized that consistency has been the key to the team’s streak.

“Tinging ko consistency talaga eh, so una kailangan talaga namin maging consistent and i-improve pa yung pagiging consistent,” Coach MTB said.

In a thrilling Game 1, Omega controlled much of the early and midgame, applying relentless pressure across the map.

However, Edward “Edward” Dapdap’s Alice turned the tide during a pivotal 24th-minute Lord fight, catching four Omega players in a devastating combo.

The setup was perfectly followed by Dylan “Light” Catipon’s (Kalea) Tsunami Slam and Czedrick “Super Yoshi” Romero’s Arlott, securing a crucial pickoff.

The clean initiation led to an uncontested Lord, which Aurora converted into a decisive push to claim the opener.

Game 2 evolved into a low-scoring yet methodical display of control from the Northern Lights. Kenneth “Yue” Tadeo’s Novaria provided constant vision and map pressure, enabling Aurora to dictate the tempo.

Their well-timed 10th-minute engage on Raizen’s Fredrinn broke Omega’s final line of defense and sealed the sweep.
