Justin Brownlee is once again facing scrutiny after receiving a notice of an adverse analytical finding, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas confirmed in a statement.
The national basketball federation stated that Brownlee is currently addressing the situation with the assistance of his US-based legal team.
However, the SBP clarified that as of now, the International Basketball Federation has yet to issue any official ruling regarding the matter.
“The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is aware that Gilas Pilipinas player Justin Brownlee has received notice of an adverse analytical finding. Brownlee is currently dealing with the situation aided by his US-based lawyers. The SBP wishes to clarify that FIBA has not issued any official ruling as of date,” the organization said in its statement.
According to a report by Spin.ph on Sunday evening, Brownlee’s test results triggered the notice, marking the second time he has faced such an issue regarding a banned substance.
This latest development marks the second time Brownlee has faced a positive test for a banned substance.
Brownlee previously tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), following his heroic stint in the 19th Asian Games in 2023.
As a result, he served a three-month suspension.
The latest test results now put Brownlee in a precarious situation as FIBA deliberates on the matter.
The SBP has yet to provide further details on the case but assured the public that Brownlee’s legal team is working to address the situation.
