After days of questions, Kai Sotto finally broke his silence.
Thursday morning (Manila time), the 18-year-old confirmed through his social media accounts that he will be entering the G League’s select program.
“I spent the past year here in the States improving my skills, building my body, and gaining the confidence to play against the best basketball players around the world. Now I have to take the next big step towards my NBA dream,” said the 7-foot-2 big man, who was Asia’s best under-17 center a year ago.
“And I’m very proud and excited to announce that I will be joining the NBA G-League select team.”
Sotto is ranked 62nd among the prospects of 2020’s class, 11th among centers. He is seen as a four-star recruit.
In the minor league, he is joining Filipino-American Jalen Green in the league’s 31st squad, rumored to be based in Southern California. The team will have no NBA affiliations.
Sotto is the first international prospect to avail of the program as well.
“I will be playing with some of the very best, and I’m committed to working on developing my game in a much bigger stage,” he continued.
For the past year, Sotto has been honing his skills with The Skills Factory in Georgia.
Many Division I schools tried to recruit him, including University of Kentucky, Auburn, and Georgia Tech.
With the NBA dream close, the former Ateneo Blue Eaglet hopes that his countrymen will continue to support him.
“My wish is that you continue to support me, pray for me, and hope for my success.”
