Philippine Superliga is extending a helping hand to the victims of the Taal Volcano eruption, assembling the Imus City Mayor Maliksi Super Cup ‘Spike For A Cause’, which takes place on February 3, 5, and 6 at the Imus Sports Complex.
The league will banner three teams from the PSL in Sta. Lucia, Generika-Ayala, and Cignal. And all of them are raring to showcase their beefed-up rosters in the three-day event that will generate donations for those affected by the natural disaster.
A selection team from West Japan will also participate in the pre-season tournament ahead of the season-opening, import-flavored Grand Prix, which commences on February 22.
“During the talks that we had with PSL, we requested that we make this particular event — ‘Spike For A Cause’ — to help those evacuees affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano,” Imus, Cavite mayor Emmanuel Maliksi said in a presser on Sunday evening.
Relief donations such as canned food and sanitary supplies will serve as tickets for fans to gain entrance and witness the matches.
“So, we’re hitting two birds with one stone. We’re promoting the sport and at the same, helping our evacuees here. And we are extremely grateful that Imus is the host of this particular event,” Maliksi added.
The league will raise the curtains to the Super Cup on February 3, Monday at 2:30 p.m. with a battle between Generika-Ayala and Sta. Lucia, both of which have made significant changes in their rosters. It will then be followed by the match between Cignal and the Japanese squad later in the day.
