Justin Brownlee’s winning legacy in the Philippines continues to grow

Make it 3-for-3 in Finals victories in the Philippines for Justin Brownlee

The 29-year-old American collected his third championship in the country on Wednesday night in Laguna, this time with San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the 8th ASEAN Basketball League.

The feat became possible as the Filipino ball club downed Mono Vampire BC, 102-92 in the title clincher, where Brownlee scattered 24 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists, a steal, and a block.

And he could not help but be grateful for the opportunity that has opened up for him here.

“I just wanna win as much as I can,” Brownlee reflected. “Every time I step on the court, I just try to win.

“Now I’ve won three championships here.”

Brownlee, along with teammate Renaldo Balkman, was somehow the lucky charm Alab needed — the team rose from oblivion to champions all thanks to the turnaround brought by the dynamic duo. For him, what they won on Wednesday is for all the people who stuck with Alab through thick and thin, for those who stayed ever since their dismal 0-3 start into the season.

“This just shows the passion, they love basketball. I love it man.

“The fans came out here and showed great support so I just got out there and tried my hardest,” Brownlee beamed.

But the 6-foot-7 scorer said that he’s not satisfied with what he has, as he’s looking forward to another mission — playing for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA this season, that is.

His return to the Barangay is inevitable — it’s just a matter of when. But the two-time Governor’s Cup champ expressed eagerness to come back to his mother team when the opportunity comes.

“Well, they got the season going. Definitely, I wanna be back in Ginebra. We’ll see how it goes,” the Tifton, Georgia-born cager shared.

“We’ll see how the next couple of days go.”
