Alyssa Solomon turns a long-held dream into reality as she takes her talents overseas, officially inking a deal with powerhouse Osaka Marvelous in Japan’s SV.League.
The 23-year-old opposite spiker had long set her sights on playing abroad, especially after capping her stellar collegiate career with a third championship for National University in UAAP Season 87 earlier this year.
She even applied for the 2025 Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Draft during the same season, but later withdrew after league rules state that student-athletes cannot be included in a professional draft while the UAAP season is still ongoing.
Now, Solomon finally gets her long-awaited break on the international stage as she joins an Osaka Marvelous side that was coming off a title campaign in the previous season at the expense of the NEC Red Rockets.
“With the addition of Solomon, we will strengthen our team capabilities even more and move forward to achieving a consecutive title in the SV. League,” the team said.
Incidentally, it is also the former club of her mentor, fellow National University great Jaja Santiago — now Sachi Minowa — who played a pivotal role in their title win earlier this year.
Even before sealing the Japan move, Solomon kept herself busy on the international front, suiting up for Alas Pilipinas during the national team window.
The UAAP Season 87 Finals MVP powered the Philippines to a historic silver medal in the AVC Nations Cup, before helping the team clinch back-to-back bronze finishes in the Southeast Asian V.League.
