Alyssa Solomon is ready to explore overseas opportunities following National University’s successful title defense in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday evening at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After a decorated collegiate career with the Lady Bulldogs — including three UAAP championships, a Best Opposite Hitter citation in Season 84, and a Finals MVP award in Season 86 — Solomon is now ready to take the next step in her volleyball journey and pursue a professional career.
In her final season with NU, Solomon played a pivotal role in leading the Lady Bulldogs to their historic first back-to-back UAAP women’s volleyball titles. She ended the season with 231 total points, built on 197 attacks, 26 blocks, and eight service aces.
“I think pahinga muna yung linolook forward ko. Kung may opportunities overseas, sige, i-grab natin, kasi for experience na rin naman ‘yan ‘eh,” Solomon shared with reporters after delivering 13 points and five excellent digs in NU’s Game 2 sweep of De La Salle University to clinch the Season 87 championship.
While Solomon is eager to follow in the footsteps of former Lady Bulldog icon Jaja Santiago — who had a successful stint in Japan and is now setting her sights on European leagues — she also expressed interest in applying for the 2025 PVL Draft, which closes on May 23.
However, before diving into local or international offers, Solomon emphasized the need to rest, recover, and savor NU’s third championship in four seasons. The 23-year-old opposite hitter endured a grueling Season 87 campaign, which included time off the court due to a left ankle sprain.
“Open naman ako sa kahit ano na opportunities natin. Pero for now, rest muna yung katawan ko,” she said.
Also on Solomon’s radar is a possible stint with Alas Pilipinas Women, the country’s national volleyball team, which is currently preparing for three major international tournaments.
The Philippines is slated to compete in the 6th AVC Challenge Cup for Women from June 8 to 15, the 5th Southeast Asian V.League (Week 1 from July 25 to 27, and Week 2 from August 1 to 3), and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from December 7 to 19.
“May Alas din ‘eh, siguro ‘yon na lang din muna. Let’s see. Siguro magpalakas pa ng katawan kasi aalis na ako ng NU so magbabago na yung sistema. Siguro ‘yon din yung isa sa paghahandaan ko,” she added.
With her legacy at NU firmly cemented, Solomon now sets her sights on a promising future beyond the UAAP — one that could take her to the professional courts at home or abroad.
