Alyssa Solomon will have to put her professional volleyball dreams on hold for now.
The UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Finals Most Valuable Player has withdrawn from the 2025 Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Draft on Thursday, keeping her status as an amateur.
This decision stems from the UAAP’s long-standing amateurism rule.
Implemented a decade ago, the rule states that student-athletes from any sport cannot be included in the final list of a professional league draft if the UAAP season is still ongoing. Doing so would automatically declare the athlete as a professional player.
This is why basketball student-athletes are not allowed to join the PBA Draft if it coincides with the UAAP basketball season.
Solomon was initially part of the 143-player pool of hopefuls for the Korean V-League Draft — a list that included 43 women — announced last March 6. Among the other notable names were Kurobe’s Maddie Madayag, Choco Mucho’s Mars Alba, and PLDT’s Majoy Baron.
Solomon was informed about the eligibility conflict by school officials last Wednesday, prior to National University’s match against Adamson University.
Despite the situation, Solomon delivered a stellar performance, scoring 22 points in the Lady Bulldogs’ 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 victory over the Lady Falcons, extending their unbeaten streak to 6-0.
On Thursday, Solomon confirmed her decision to withdraw from the draft, opting to maintain her amateur status and eligibility with NU.
No Lady Bulldogs games will be affected by this development.
Next up for Solomon and the Lady Bulldogs is a showdown with last season’s Finals opponent, University of Santo Tomas, on Sunday.
