Domengkite using M6 setback into fuel for comeback

By: Jan Marcus Montevirgen

After a heartbreaking exit at the M6 World Championships, Jan “Domengkite” Del Mundo is back with a vengeance.

Determined to silence the doubters, the Aurora star is using past mistakes as fuel to ignite his comeback.

And with his stellar performance in the opening game of MPL PH Season 15, it’s clear Domengkite is more than ready to rise from the ashes and reclaim his place at the top.

For Domengkite, Aurora’s early exit during the M6 World Championships became the driving force behind his determination to prove himself this season.

During the M6 World Championships, Domengkite’s Beatrix missed a crucial kill on Team Liquid Indonesia’s Favian “Faviannn” Putra (Suyou), which had been set up by Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse’s Chou in a well-executed play.

This misstep contributed to a 0-2 defeat for Aurora.

Entering the season, Domengkite took this failure to heart and proved that he could rise above it.

In Game 1, he earned the MVP award with a flawless KDA of seven kills and four assists on his Granger, leading his team to victory against Twisted Minds.

“Yung mga tao kasi parang one mistake lang, talagang iba-bash ka nila ta’s parang kakalimutan na nila yung magandang ginawa mo ta’s ilo-look down ka nila. Ngayon ipo-prove ko na lang sa kanila na nagkamali lang ako pero babangon pa rin,” Domengkite shared in an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times after their 2-0 win against TWIS on Friday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati.

Following their 12th-14th place finish at the M6 World Championship, Domengkite returned home to his parents. He retreated to his room, haunted by the failure of the prestigious tournament.

Taking full responsibility for Aurora’s early exit, Domengkite found comfort in his parents’ encouraging words, which helped him regain his confidence.

“After kasi noon umuwi ako two days after namin umuwi. Nasa kwarto lang ako, ‘di ako nakikipag-usap, talagang na-trauma ako sa nangyari,” he said.

“Noong nakita nila akong ganon, inapproach nila ako parang sinabi sa akin na hindi pa doon nagtatapos yung career ko at marami pa akong mapapatunayan.”

With a strong start to MPL PH Season 15, Domengkite is determined to maintain the momentum. He believes that if his team can consistently translate their successful practice sessions into the actual tournament, they will continue to perform at a high level.

“Siguro kung ano yung ginagawa namin sa scrim ay ma-translate namin sa mismong game sa MPL.”
