Given his pedigree as well as his talent, Chris McCullough dropping a massive amount of points is no surprise.
The former NBA cager posted 51 points in Game Three of San Miguel’s 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series versus the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Wednesday. This was the highest output of an import so far in the current mid-season joust.
But as the final buzzer sounded, that impressive scoring display just became a mere afterthought.
The Beermen lost, 104-112, stalling their bid to sweep their way to the championship round.
For McCullough, the team didn’t waste his performance; rather, they simply failed to finish the match properly.
San Miguel had the advantage, 104-102, with 1:32 left to play after his jumper. But veterans Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga, plus young guns Rey Nambatac and Javee Mocon, joined hands to finish the game for Rain or Shine with a 10-0 blast.
“I’m not going to say it was wasted. I played a tough game, played a hard game. We didn’t just win the game,” said McCullough, who also collected 14 rebounds and three assists.
“We just didn’t finish the game.”
McCullough, though, is ready to put the loss behind him and move forward ahead of Game Four this Friday.
“I think everybody needs to be locked in. Once you step in the arena, lock in and just get ready,” said the four-year pro cager out of Syracuse “Prepare for the game, go to practice, prepare for Game Four.
“That’s it.”
