Caloy Yulo missed the podium for the first time in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, finishing fourth in the men’s floor exercise at the Sportspalais in Antwerp, Belgium.
The 23-year-old, who won the 2019 title in the same apparatus, scored 14.500, boosted by a huge 6.300 difficulty score on Saturday, placing him just 0.100 points behind Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi.
Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat secured the 2023 Worlds title, adding to his 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold, in a closely contested match with a score of 14.866, 0.200 points ahead of silver medalist Minami Kazuki of Japan.
Apart from his 2019 floor gold, Yulo claimed victory on the vault in 2021 in Kitakyushu and earned two silvers in 2021 on parallel bars and 2022 on the vault. He also secured two more bronzes in 2018 on the floor and 2022 on parallel bars.
Fortunately, the gymnastics standout secured a ticket to the Paris Olympics next year as the highest eligible gymnast not part of a qualified team or individual not qualified through the all-around qualification scores. Yulo qualified alongside fellow gymnast Aleah Finnegan, following pole vaulter EJ Obiena to the Games. Boxer Eumir Marcial was also added to the list after the Asian Games route.
