Reigning Olympic champion Carlos Yulo claimed his second World title on vault after delivering a stellar performance that earned an average score of 14.866 in the final at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Saturday at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta.
Yulo, who first captured the World vault title in 2019, demonstrated his dominance by improving on his qualification score of 14.750, with the difference coming down to sharper execution.
Third to compete on the vault, the 25-year-old opened with a piked Dragulescu, executed nearly flawlessly.
He finished the vault with a clean landing, earning the critical stick bonus — a factor that ultimately decided the final standings.
His first vault concluded with an impressive 15.200 in total, highlighted by a 9.500 in execution.
For his second vault, Yulo performed a handspring front 2.5 twist with composure, adding 14.533 to his score and securing the average that clinched the title.
The suspense, however, came down to the final competitor, 2022 World champion Artur Davtyan of Armenia.
Davtyan delivered a 14.800 on his first vault and followed with another strong 14.866, finishing with a 14.833 — just 0.033 behind Yulo.
Had Yulo missed the stick bonus on his first vault, the outcome could have been dramatically different.
Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine completed the podium as the seventh performer, scoring 14.483 and edging out Italy’s Tommaso Brugnami.
Earlier in the championships, Yulo also claimed bronze on the floor exercise, redeeming himself after narrowly missing the podium two years ago in Antwerp, Belgium.
At just 25, Yulo has already amassed an impressive collection of World Championship medals: three golds (two on vault, one on floor), two silvers, and three bronzes.
